On Mondays we usually showcase and highlight moms within our community. Many show a bright picture with happy faces. Reality is, being a mom is HARD. Being a parent is work. So, today I have decided to do something a little different.
Tomorrow, September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day. Mental health doesn't discriminate between gender nor race lines. Tomorrow, we light candles for those we have lost and those who feel lost. September is suicide awareness month. This is a topic many of us are not comfortable with but I feel that it is something we NEED to talk about. Help break the stigma to help save lives. No one should be ashamed in reaching out for help. Our community has MANY resources for women and families and it can feel overwhelming to know where to start. Friends and family should be reaching out to their loved regularly and watching for signs. When someone opens up about their feelings do not just brush it off, ask them how you can get them help. Let your loved ones know you are a safe space to ask for help. This doesn't mean you have to make them better, but be that person to direct them to the proper resources. Here in Minnesota there are many: http://www.suicide.org/hotlines/minnesota-suicide-hotlines.html In addition to https://www.ppsupportmn.org/ (an organization we have featured before). For more information on World Suicide Prevention Day check oout this organization https://www.iasp.info/wspd2019/ In addition, there is a blog post from a few years ago. It is a letter to moms out there struggling. As always - thank you for reading and happy Monday. -Amanda
